Satan’s attack on our first parents began with an attack upon the Word of God. God’s Word, brief as it was in those days, was Eve’s sole defence against the insinuations and suggestions of that subtle foe who entered Eden filled with the genius of a cherub. To all his craft and cunning she need only have replied, “Thus saith the Lord!” and Satan’s sophistries and blandishments would have been parried. In the last analysis the temptation hinged upon the matter of belief.
